Five Injured in Multiple Crashes on Interstate 41

Randy Rozek • Aug 18, 2016

Five people were injured in multiple crashes along Interstate 41 Thursday night, Aug 11.

Various media reports say the five people were residents of Fox Cities, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The Post Crescent reports one of the residents, a 40-year-old Appleton woman, was in serious condition Friday morning at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah, a spokeswoman said.

At least two of the crashes involved cement-mixer trucks and another, a FedEx semi-truck.

“About 6 p.m. Thursday, a sport utility vehicle rear-ended a FedEx semi-truck while heading north near Richmond Street. Those vehicles pulled off to the right shoulder, according to the article. “As traffic continued north past the crash , a cement mixer struck a sedan. The driver of the sedan, a 20-year-old Kimberly man, and three passengers — a 21-year-old Little Chute man, a 19-year-old Menasha woman and an 18-year-old Kimberly man — were all taken to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton for injuries.”

While authorities were responding to the two crashes, another crash occurred between a mid-size vehicle that was heading south on I-41 at Richmond Street and a different cement-mixer truck.

According to the article, the mid-size vehicle struck the cement-mixer truck and then struck a sedan.

“The driver of the mid-size vehicle, the 40-year-old Appleton woman, was taken to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton and later moved to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah,” the article reads. “The Grand Chute Police Department investigated the first crash, while the State Patrol handled the other two.”

According to an article by WBAY , the Wisconsin Department of Transportation says the first crash happened about 6 p.m., which caused traffic to slow down. Grand Chute police are investigating this crash.

The DOT says the second crash happened while traffic was moving past the first crash. A 2017 cement mixer hit a Honda Accord. The driver of the cement-mixer truck was not injured.

“While first responders were dealing with the second crash, the third crash happened southbound on I-41 at Richmond Street,” according to WBAY. “A Ford Contour hit a 2014 cement mixer and was then hit by a Ford Fusion. … Neither the driver of the Fusion or the driver of the cement-mixer were hurt.”

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating both crashes involving the cement mixers.

The DOT says no one in any of the vehicles was using alcohol. No information was released in regards to charges in any of the crashes.

After an ongoing struggle to bring justice to the victim of an attack at a Wisconsin diabetes clinic, attorney Randy Rozek of Rozek Law Offices, S.C. has won an $8.3 million victory in which a jury found hospital security at fault for the attack and the client’s resulting injuries. In 2014, Rozek’s client was in the waiting room of the diabetes clinic at a local children’s hospital when a 16-year-old girl with a history of violence viciously assaulted her. The victim, who was accompanied by her two young children, was “punched repeatedly in the face and head, had chunks of hair pulled from her head and was struck in the head with a chair,” Rozek said. The children, aged 9 and 11 at the time, were so frightened by the brutal beating that they fled to a stairwell for safety, fearing their mother had been killed by the attacker and that they would be next if the attacker was to find them. Rozek’s client survived the assault, but still struggles with symptoms of a TBI (traumatic brain injury) and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) following the attack.
