A Clintonville boy who was traveling with his father in a semi-tractor trailer filled with milk died in a western Wisconsin crash last week. The incident occurred on Sunday about 4 a.m. on Hwy. 8 near TT, west of Barron, according to various media reports.
“A car driven by a 22-year-old Rice Lake man was headed east when it crossed the center line and hit the milk tanker head-on, sheriff’s officials say. The tanker flipped over and slid into the ditch,” an article by FOX11-News reads. “The driver (of the semi), 48-year-old Jerald Olmsted of Clintonville, had to be cut out of the cab. He was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. Olmstead’s 9-year-old son, Alex, was riding with him. He was trapped under the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.”
The driver of the car was also injured as a result of the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital.
He is expected to survive.
The crash closed a stretch of Hwy. 8 for about eight and a half hours.
The Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a call about the two-vehicle crash and when they responded to the scene, along with Gold Cross Ambulance, Barron-Maple Grove Fire Department, and Turtle Lake First Responders, deputies found Olmsted and his son trapped in the semi and the driver of the car with injuries.
Following an investigation, the highway was reopened around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22
Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said that the crash remains under investigation by the department along with the Wisconsin State Patrol.
There’s no mention in the article as to whether or not the driver of the car was charged or is facing charges in connection to the fatal crash.
