Every year, hundred of thousands of consumers get ripped off by auto repair shops making it the number one consumer complaint in the USA. Below are some tips on how to avoid getting ripped off in the future when you have to get your car repaired after a car accident.

1. Find a Good Mechanic: Look for mechanics that are certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Also look for garages displaying the “AAA Approved Auto Repair” sign.

2. Make An Appointment: This will give the shop owner a chance to schedule your work with the mechanic best equipped to deal with the problem.

3. Work Orders: Always get a written work order before you leave your car. It should include a written estimate of the price and repairs. Watch out for vague language and ask for further detail if something is written like “check and fix brake noise.”

4. Check the Warranty: Find out what kind of warranty the reapir shop offers. Before paying, get a written copy of it.

5. Test Drive: Test drive your car as soon as you pick it up. If there is still something noticeably wrong, have them fix it. If you discover something wrong on the next few days, bring it back immediately.
