Women’s Neck Injury and Pain

More than 18% of women suffer from neck pain every year. While many women have suffered injury from an accident that has resulted in neck pain, most of this 18% is made up of women who have not been in an accident. According to researchers at Temple University, women’s chronic neck pain has a lot to do with the texting craze.

Habitually looking down while holding your phone is correlated with neck and shoulder soreness. The more texting you do, the greater chances you are to establish neck and shoulder pain.

To relieve soreness and pressure, the University recommends limiting your texting to no more that 5 minutes at a time, lift head occasionally throughout the 5 minute duration and do some stretching by rolling your head from your left shoulder to the right shoulder.

Most importantly, do not text and drive, even for a second. This activity may not result in simple neck pain, it may cause an accident and cost you your life.

Avoiding Scars After Neck Surgery

If you have been in an accident resulting in an injury that requires surgery, you may be wondering how to avoid or minimize the chances of getting a scar. Many former and current clients that have been in wisconsin car accidents resulted in bulging or herniated disks requiring surgery. Most of the time, the incision is made in the front of the neck area. Scarring has been a leading concern for these accident victims. Over the years, I have done some research to help advise clients on ways to minimize scarring. Here is what I have found.

Plastic surgeons recommend eating more protein such as eggs, fish, nuts, and lean meat at least 2 weeks before your surgery. Protein rich foods boost the production of collagen which helps speed up healing. Taking a daily multi-vitamin also can help. Research shows that getting enough vitamin C, zinc, and magnesium may reduce scarring.

As your incision wound is healing, apply an antibiotic ointment and keep it covered. The ointment and covering of the wound prevents the hard scabbing which can inhibit new tissue growth. Once a week or so has passed, you can switch from the ointment to a lotion. Continue to apply the lotion following the closure of the wound.

When the stitches are out, make sure to use SPF to prevent UV rays from simulating the skin cells which can cause discoloration. If you still notice scarring, you can contact your dermatologist to prescribe cream to fade the mark or you can contact a plastic surgeon.

4 Whiplash Injury Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Claim

Posted by rozeklawoffice on March 6, 2010 under Car Accidents, Whiplash Neck Injury | Be the First to Comment

Whiplash is by far the most common injury resulting from car accidents. The following are the four common mistakes that could ruin or reduce the value of your whiplash neck injury claim.

1. Giving a Recorded Statement to an Insurance Adjuster

Insurance investigators and adjusters are directed to obtain recorded statements as soon as possible following car accidents. I have had clients that were called by insurance adjusters seeking a recorded statement before the injury victim had even been released from the emergency room. Insurance adjusters are also trained in taking recorded statements in a manner that reduces their “exposure,” i.e. the amount they will have to pay on a claim. SPEAK WITH A LAWYER BEFORE GIVING A RECORDED STATEMENT!

2. Not Seeking Medical Treatment Immediately Following the Accident

If you have suffered a whiplash injury, your injuries need to be documented. Oftentimes, people refuse transport at the scene because they are in shock or the rush of adrenaline prevents them from realizing the full extent of their pain. Then the next few days, they don’t leave their house because they are in so much pain. Then the pain gradually begins getting better so they “wait it out” and refuse to see a doctor. Soon it is 2 or 3 weeks post-accident and they realize the pain is not resolving on it’s own. At this point, an insurance carrier will generally deny or greatly reduce any future claim payout because it is too difficult for the injured party to convince a jury that the accident caused the injury. The insurance company may be right. If you are in pain following an accident, don’t “wait it out,” get to a doctor.

3. Not Properly Documenting Your Harms and Losses Due to the Accident

Injury victims are entitled to recover their medical bills, wage loss and pain and suffering. All of these different elements of damages can be properly documented but the average person may not have any idea how to document their losses. Advice from an experienced whiplash attorney can greatly increase the value of a case.

4. Not Hiring an Experienced Whiplash Attorney

Once you have been involved in an accident and suffered a whiplash injury you need to decide who you are going to ask to help you with your claim for compensation. You should read the small print of anyone who offers you help. Be sure to hire an experienced whiplash injury attorney to help you recover all of your harms and losses from the accident.

Before Choosing A Personal Injury Lawyer, Educate Yourself

I recently heard the unfortunate story of a lady who was trying to fire her lawyer. He had her case for over two years and had done nothing with it. She was completely disabled as a result of the accident but even that didn’t get the lawyer motivated to move forward with her case.

Then I learned of how she met her lawyer. Shortly after her car accident, she received a call from a chiropractor offering her a “Free Initial Examination.” She was in pain and it sounded too good to be true, so she went in for a visit.

She agreed to go in for her free appointment. The chiropractor seemed nice enough. Then, in the middle of the first treatment session, the chiropractor asked her if she had a lawyer yet. When she answered “no,” the chiropractor insisted that she meet his friend, the lawyer, who just happened to be in the neighborhood and would be stopping by as soon as her session ended.

Apparently, the chiropractor and the lawyer had a secret agreement and since the lawyer couldn’t call the lady directly without risking being disbarred, he had the chiropractor do his soliciting for him.
