Two people were seriously injured Saturday afternoon following a crash in Monroe County.
According to various media reports, two people had to be extricated from their vehicles and transported to local hospitals as a result of the incident.
“According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Matthew E. Kuruzovich, 33 of Sparta, was driving a 2014 Kia Optima westbound on Fillmore Avenue in Monroe County about 3:22 p.m. Saturday afternoon,” an article by WEAU News reads. “Kuruzovich failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Fillmore Avenue and County Highway I. Kuruzovich hit a 2005 Ford F-250 traveling northbound on County Highway I driven by David L. Wacker, 32 of Sparta.”
When law enforcement arrived on scene, both vehicles were reportedly in a ditch. Kuruzovich and Wacker both had to be extricated from their vehicles.
“Wacker was transported to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse by the Sparta Area Ambulance Service with life-threatening injuries,” the article reads. “Kuruzovich was transported to Sparta Mayo Hospital by the Sparta Area Ambulance Service with non-life-threatening injuries.”
At the scene assisting the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was the Monroe County 911 Communications Center, the Sparta Area Ambulance Service, the Fort McCoy Fire Department, the Sparta Area Fire Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The article does not mention whether Kuruzovich was charged in connection with the crash or whether or not charges are expected. There’s also no mention of whether speed or alcohol may have been contributing factors.
