A western Wisconsin crash left a Cottage Grove man dead, an Ellsworth man injured, and shut a highway down for about three hours last Sunday night.

According to an article posted on Woodbury Patch , the incident occurred about 10:16 p.m. Sunday, March 19.
“On Sunday at about 10:16 p.m., the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin was notified of a two vehicle accident with injuries on U.S. Highway 10 in Trimbelle Township,” according to the Woodbury Patch article.
Charles E. Hill, 38, from Ellsworth, WI., was reportedly driving a 2012 Ford F350 westbound on Highway 10. Jacob T. Stanger, 21, from Cottage Grove was traveling eastbound on Highway 10 in a 2008 Infiniti G37.
“Authorities say the initial investigation shows that both vehicles collided head-on. Both operators were the lone occupants of their vehicles, according to a news release,” the article reads.
Once officials arrived on scene, the Pierce County Medical Examiner announced that Stanger was pronounced dead on the scene. Hill was reportedly transported by the Ellsworth Area Ambulance Service to Regions Hospital in nearby Saint Paul.
There’s no information given in regards to the status of Hill’s injuries.
The Wisconsin State Patrol completed a reconstruction of the accident while the Pierce County Highway Department provided traffic control. The highway was shut down for approximately three hours while investigators conducted the accident reconstruction.
Woodbury Patch reports the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Ellsworth Ambulance Service, Ellsworth Fire Department and the Pierce County Highway Department.
The head-on collision remains under investigation and there’s no information in regards to whose fault the crash was, or if Hill might face charges in connection to the collision.
