A motorcyclist was killed on April 15 after he was struck by a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
According to various media reports, the fatal crash happened about 10 a.m. Saturday at W. Appleton Avenue and W. Silver Spring Drive.
“Authorities say a 32-year-old man was on his motorcycle and traveling at a high rate of speed when he was struck by the driver of a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee,” an article published on the Greenfield Patch website reads.
According to the Patch article, emergency responders did use lifesaving measures on the motorcycle driver when they arrived on scene, but he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash soon after.
“The adult male driver of the Jeep was uninjured and remained on scene,” the article reads.
The name of the victim and the driver of the Jeep were not released to the public as of Tuesday morning. There’s also no mention in the article whether the driver of the Jeep is facing any criminal charges in connection to the incident. Milwaukee police continue to investigate the incident.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reports that an average of 509 people died each year on Wisconsin roads between 2009 and 2013. During that same time span, an average of 18,389 crashes occurred each year as a result of speeding, an average of 2,376 crashes involved a motorcyclist, an average of 91 motorcyclists died as a result of a crash, and an average of 2,161 motorcyclists were injured as a result of a crash each year on Wisconsin roadways.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Crash Records Unit reports that so far this year, 126 people have died in a vehicle crash. Last year, 74 fatalities due to some sort of vehicle crash were reported to the Wisconsin DOT in Milwaukee and as of April 16, 24 people have reportedly died on Milwaukee roads so far this year.
