“Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies were immediately dispatched along with the Gratiot Fire Department, Gratiot First Responders, and Rural Ambulance Service,” an article by WMTV reports. “Upon arriving at the scene, Gratiot Fire requested additional ambulances from Rural Medical and Warren, Illinois Ambulance Service.”
An initial investigation into the incident shows that a 2002 Lexus passenger car driven by 22-year-old Cameron J. Paddock of Monticello, Iowa, was travelling eastbound on STW 11 when a westbound 2014 GMC Savannah cube van, driven by 23-year-old John Drew Brewington of Salem Wisconsin, crossed the center line striking the Lexus, according to WMTV.
“Paddock suffered severe injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque Iowa where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” the article reads.
Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Brewington upon his release from the hospital. He was taken to Lafayette County Jail where he is being held pending an appearance in County Circuit Court.
“Brewington faces a tentative charge of Homicide through intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, a class D felony, which carries a maximum sentence of a fine up to $100,000 or imprisonment up to 25 years, or both,” the article reads.
A 23-year old female from Roscoe, Illinois was a passenger in Paddock’s car and suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. She was taken to Memorial Hospital in Lafayette County.
