One man was killed and another injured in a western Wisconsin crash last Wednesday.
According to various media reports, the two-vehicle crash occurred in Polk County.
“The sheriff’s office says about 9:15 p.m. it got a report of the head-on crash on Wisconsin Highway 35 near 160th Avenue, just south of the Village of Centuria in the Town of Saint Croix Falls, an article posted on the KSTP website reads. AAdvertisement – Content Continues Below 64-year-old man from rural Centuria was driving a Ford Ranger pickup northbound when the truck crossed the centerline and collided with a southbound Chevrolet Suburban, officials said.”
It was the driver of the Ford Ranger who reportedly died at the scene as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.
“The other driver, a 53-year-old rural Centuria man, was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital. He was wearing a seat belt. There’s no word on his condition at this time,” the article reads.
Officials had not released the names of the men as of November 11 pending family notification.
“The sheriff’s office says no passengers were in either vehicle, and there’s no indication that alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash,” the article reads.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 688 people died in Polk County crashes in 2014 – the latest data available. An average of 584 people died on Polk County roads as a result of crashes from 2009-2014.
