Four people were injured, two of them seriously, in a four-vehicle crash on Highway 51 north of DeForest on Dec. 20. Two drivers involved in the crash were transported to the hospital with what media reports say were serious injuries.
Two other people were also reportedly injured as a result of the crash and the highway was closed for more than two hours during morning rush hour while investigators were on the scene.
“The crash happened at about 6:30 a.m. near Highway DM in the town of Windsor, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office said. A Honda driven by Antonio Carrillo-Maya, 53, of Madison, was northbound on Highway 51 on the snow-covered road, crossing into the southbound lane and striking a Chevy Blazer driven by Chad Holmes, 39, of Pardeeville,” an article by the Wisconsin State Journal reads. “A northbound Jeep and a southbound pickup truck were not able to avoid the initial crash and both vehicles hit the first two vehicles.”
Bill Novak, a reporter with the Wisconsin State Journal reports that Carrillo-Maya and Holmes were both seriously injured as a result of the crash. Med Flight reportedly responded to the scene, but was unable to transport anyone due to mechanical issues. Both Carrillo-Maya and Holmes were transported to the hospital by ambulance.
“The drivers of the third and fourth vehicles had minor injuries and were not taken to a hospital,” the article reads. “Carrillo-Maya was to be ticketed for failure to maintain control and for having no driver’s license.”
