A crash involving a semitrailer that was hauling manure caused a driver to be seriously injured, another driver to be injured, and a spill of manure on the roadway in Manitowoc County T.
According to an article posted on the Herald Times Reporter website, the semitrailer that was hauling manure collided with some farm equipment on Manitowoc County T near Polifka Road.
The crash occurred about 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
According to various media reports, the driver of the semi was trying to pass the driver of a Loadall telescopic handler.
A telescopic handler, which is also called a telehandler, teleporter, or boom lift, is a machine widely used in agriculture and industry. It’s similar to a forklift but has a boom, making it more a crane than a forklift. It offers increased versatility of a single telescopic or articulating boom that can extend forwards and upwards from the vehicle.
On the end of the boom the operator can fit one of several attachments, such as a bucket, pallet forks, muck grab, or winch. Telehandlers are sometimes called cherry pickers in North America, as that name can refer to any truck or heavy equipment that has such a boom.
Both the driver of the semi and the driver of the Loadall telescopic handler were headed south on Manitowoc County T. The driver of the semi reportedly hit the Loadall as the driver was attempting to make a left turn onto Polifka Road, according to a news release from the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department.
When the semi and Loadall collided, the Loadall landed in a ditch south of Polifka Road and the semi turned over onto its driver’s side. The incident blocked both lanes of traffic.
“The tanker spilled its load of liquid manure on County T, according to the Sheriff’s Department,” the article reads. “The Reedsville man, 58, driving the semi was taken by helicopter to Baycare Aurora Medical Center in Green Bay with serious injuries.”
Also injured as a result of the collision was a 60-year-old man from Cato. The Cato man was operating the Loadall at the time of the crash. He was not transported to a hospital at the time of the crash.
The Sheriff’s Department and Wisconsin State Patrol continue to investigate the incident. There’s no mention in the article as to whether or not anyone is facing charges in connection to the collision.
