More than a dozen students were on board a school bus last Thursday when an SUV slammed into the back of it in Milwaukee.Various media reports say that 16 children were on the bus at the time of the crash.
The crash happened on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 2 about 4 p.m. near the intersection of Sherman and Congress in Milwaukee, according to an article on the FOX6 Now website.
“According to one of the students, the moments during the accident were terrifying for those on board,” the article reads.
One of the students told a FOX6 Now reporter that all the children were laughing and talking like it was just a regular day and the next thing they knew there was a loud crash. The student said after that happened, students were flying to one side of the bus and everyone started crying, yelling and screaming.
It was that moment that the student’s school bus had been struck by an SUV. It’s unclear in the article who was at fault. Police say the Chevy suburban struck the school bus as it was making a turn. It’s not clear whether the bus was making the turn or the SUV.
“It was bad. There [were] kids crying everywhere, you could see kids being walked away by parents or other adults that came to get them — it was a bad scene,” Tama Robinson, a student’s mom told FOX6.
Several of the students who were on board the bus during the crash were transferred to the hospital. The driver of the suburban was also transported to the hospital with injuries. Police have said that none of those injuries were life threatening, but no other information in regards to the condition of the children or drivers was released.
The mother of one of the students on board said she’s thankful because the incident could have been much worse.
“It could have been tragic, it could have been worse,” said Robinson.
