A crash last Thursday afternoon in a northwestern section of Marathon County left one dead and two others injured, according to various media reports.
An article posted by the Wausau Daily Herald reports that the incident occurred near the intersection of County O and County F, according to Marathon County Sheriff’s Lt. Fred Goch.
One person was reported dead at the scene of the crash. A medical helicopter was called for one of the persons injured and another person was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance as a result of injuries they sustained in the crash.
“The call came at 3:24 p.m. reporting a crash in the rural area near the village of Athens,” the article reads. “The crash was a collision between a red car and a black pickup truck. At the scene Thursday afternoon, the car was overturned in the front yard of one of the several houses on the rural stretch of road in the town of Berlin.”
A team of officials were called in to conduct a crash reconstruction at the site of the accident as a part of an investigation into what occurred.
Police did not immediately release details about the cause of the crash or the direction of travel by either vehicle. As of Monday morning, those details still have not been released to the public and there’s no mention as to whether anyone is facing charges in connection to the deadly crash.
The identities of the people involved were not immediately released and were expected to be released upon notification of family members.
The condition of the two people who were injured as a result of the crash also were not available at the time of publication of the article.
As of April 2, 102 traffic deaths have been reported in Wisconsin so far in 2017, according to the state Department of Transportation.
