A Wisconsin nurse who worked at a Norwood Health Care Center has been charged with intentionally abusing patients.
An article posted on the Marshfield News-Herald website says that Rosemary Carlson, 60, of Arpin, allegedly pulled a patient’s hair and tried to force pills that had fallen on the floor into another patient’s mouth.
The health care center is located in Marshfield and Carlson was a nurse there. Another nurse who works at the facility said she witnessed Carlson pulling a man’s hair who has a traumatic brain injury. The incident occurred on Oct. 20 last year and Carlson made her initial appearance in Wood County Circuit Court Monday morning, according to the news article.
Court documents say another coworker also witnessed Carl telling the TBI victim that he acted like a 2-year-old, so she would treat him like a 2-year-old.
“When Carlson left the patient’s room, she said to the second nurse, ‘That’s what you do; you pull hair so there are no bruises,’ according to documents,” the article reads.
Court documents also say that one of the nurses witnessed Carlson trying to force-feed another patient pills that had fallen on the floor while she was working in the traumatic brain injury department.
“The nurse walked into the room and saw Carlson trying to force-feed medication to a patient by prying open his mouth, according to court documents,” the article reads. “The patient spit the pills onto the floor, and Carlson picked them up and against tried to stuff them into his mouth, according to the documents.”
The coworker reportedly tried to get Carlson to stop force-feeding the TBI patient by explaining to her the man had already taken his pills in pudding, but that wasn’t enough to stop her. Court documents say Carlson continued to force the medication into the patient’s mouth and then told her coworkers to not “breathe a word” about the incident.
“Wood County Circuit Judge Greg Potter set a $2,500 signature bond for Carlson and transferred the case to Wood County Circuit Judge Nicholas Brazeau Jr. for further proceedings,” according to the article.
